

A Headlands gardener has been jailed after kidnapping an eight-year-old boy, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has said.
Ernest Kapfurutsa (25), a gardener residing at Plot 40, Wensleydale, Headlands, was convicted and sentenced by the Rusape Magistrates’ Court to an effective 12 months’ imprisonment for kidnapping a minor.
Accordig to the State, the incident occurred on 11 October 2025 at around 1600 hours in Village 2, Nyamukamani, Chiendambuya.
The eight-year-old complainant was walking home in the company of a friend when the offender intercepted them. Kapfuruttsa first attempted to grab one of the minors but failed. He then managed to seize the complainant by the arm and began forcefully dragging him towards the nearby Nyagadzi River, intending to deprive the child of his freedom of movement.
Despite struggling to break free, the boy was unable to escape. As they passed the Nyamukamani gardens, he shouted for help to a woman who was working in her garden. She immediately went to investigate the commotion, prompting Kapfurutsa to release the child and flee.
The matter was promptly reported to the police, leading to the offender’s arrest.
