Two seedlings of an open pollinated H. subquintuplinervis: HLW-2421-A & HLW-2421-B. They both were down to a single leaf last spring (due to mites mostly) and the new growth was devoured by thrips after that. We’re back in business now and these new leaves are amazing. HLW-2421-A (pic 1) is glabrous and firm yet rather thin with a lacy net of veins plus a prominent recurved margin that curls back into a lip (pic 2). It makes it look thick from the front but it’s concave on the back. Its sibling HLW-2421-B (pic 3 on the left) is more matte and sometimes pillowy with more splash but with less striking venation. It’s also even thinner which is surprising given its known parentage. They’re both still small and settling into their mature traits, so there’s potential yet! Also can’t wait to see what the flowers look like 💚
