A 94-year-old woman has had an artist turn one side of her home into her “dream garden”. Muriel Baker, from the Somerset village of Meare near Glastonbury, said as she doesn’t have a real garden and can’t do any of the upkeep, she thought “wouldn’t it be nice to have a garden on the wall”.

Local artist John Minshull did a mural on one of the exterior walls of her house, creating a lush natural space with a sprawling lawn, an array of flowers in vibrant colours, and a stunning English countryside landscape disappearing into the distance under a blue sky. It also features a butterfly and birds to bring the scene to life.

She told SWNS: “It’s incredible what he’s done with it. It’s brought a lot of pleasure to the local community. They are coming from far away to have a look at it.

Mr Minshull, who has done dozens of murals in the area, said Ms Baker wanted a space where she could “look at flowers, and enjoy a view without have to having to maintain them, without having to water them”.

“So she just basically asked for flowers, and I created this landscape view around it, to give her a little bit more of a view.”

The mural is the second she’s had done on her house, BBC News reports.

The artist was previously commissioned by Muriel to paint a farmhouse scene on another side her home in Spring last year, depicting her father milking cows beside and chickens scampering through the grass in front of a pretty rural landscape.

Ms Baker said both murals cost £2,000 but are “well worth it”, SWNS reports.

The new work connects with the first painting, covering two sides of the property. The farmhouse mural took around eight days to finish and the second was done in just five days, as per the news agency.

Mr Minshull explained in a Facebook post that with the first mural he had to “disguise the electric boxes protruding from the wall as packing cases that could be used as a seat for milking the cow!”.
