Margao’s once-charming municipal garden is steadily losing its appeal, with residents voicing concern over increasing nuisance activities in the area. Locals say groups of drunkards and some migrants frequently occupy the garden’s benches, creating an environment that feels unsafe and unwelcoming.
The situation is reportedly most troubling behind the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) building, where morning gatherings have become a daily occurrence. Residents allege that these groups have turned parts of the garden into hotspots for petty crimes.
Citizens like Vivek Naik have urged the police to step in, calling for regular verification drives and the removal of intoxicated individuals from the premises. According to Naik, the unchecked presence of such groups has contributed to incidents of robbery and other illegal activities, prompting locals to demand immediate action to restore safety and revive the garden’s lost charm.
