Monty Don has shared his true feelings of “relief” as BBC Gardeners’ World wraps filming and was pulled off air. The show will pause for a winter break before returning in spring 2026 – but for Monty, it’s a well-earned break after the “pressures” of filming at his Longmeadow garden for the year. In his column for BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine, he admitted it’s a welcome respite for the cameras to stop rolling.
He wrote of his winter gardening projects: “Should we be filming all of this? Probably. I would not mind at all, but there is no doubt that filming would make it all take twice as long, and add a level of scrutiny and pressure that we are happy to do without for a few winter months before the filming circus returns all too quickly next February.”
He went on: “This timetable has remained constant for the past 20 years or so, although I suspect that most viewers would like us to carry on throughout winter.
“However, the commissioning and scheduling of programmes moves in mysterious ways so it is unlikely to change in a hurry.”
Devastated viewers did indeed echo that sentiment, with one tweeting: “Great to have gardeners world till 21st of November hope this change stays as I think they started later this year as it usually finishes at the end of October. I think with seasons all over the place it makes sense.”
Someone else said: “Slightly depressing that’s the last #GardenersWorld until Spring apart from the specials.”
While a third fan echoed: “Well that’s me down in the dumps! At least we have the extras to keep us going. Keep smiling peeps till next spring #GardenersWorld.”
And another fan said: “Aww that’s our programme over, thank you team #GardenersWorld. You’ve excelled yourselves this year, great programmes every week, and winter specials to look forward to. Take care, keep gardening and I look forward to spring 2026.”
