I tried to pull them away from the plant, but probably caused them to step right on it. Whoops! It snapped right at the ground and I only just got it from the Austin NPSOT chapter sale and planted a couple weeks ago. I assume there’s a minimal chance this “cutting” grows roots or that the roots in the ground grow a new plant.
I’m wondering if anyone know if it’s doomed or has a chance.

these things are so hardy!! a bunch of mine got stomped on a while back and now it just grows sideways…lol. keep the roots watered and you’d be surprised!
It will be fine. This summer, a gray fox decided she liked to sleep on top of my mistflowers. They were a little flat for a month or so, but are doing fine now.
Had new siding installed and mine was trampled by the crew. It came back like nothing happened.
I cut mine down to the ground every winter and it explodes in spring. Yours will be fine.
I just rooted about 5 Gregg’s mistflower cuttings in water and transferred them to pots. they’re still doing fine so hopefully yours will too!
I bought some last year from the clearance rack. Kept them in the original pots and didn’t water and they died, looked like sticks. A month ago, one of the dead sticks grew a stem and it’s tall and happy and green now! Not sure about your cuttings, but the roots might be alive.
Wow, I’m surprised to hear from everyone that it may just survive! It’ll be interesting to see what happens.
Keep the plant that is in the ground watered and it will do fine. I cut mine to the ground and each year and they come back fine.
Very likely will survive if it gets back in the ground and remains damp for a week or so. I yank these out of the ground, throw them in a pot and backfill with soil. Flood them and adjust the placement in the muck. In two weeks I am giving them to neighbors!
It’ll live! and if it doesn’t… lots of us can dig some up for you!
I wasn’t sure if you meant the plant or the toddler. 😂
