The world-famous Butchart Gardens in Victoria is soon transforming into its own slice of winter paradise, complete with thousands of glimmering Christmas lights. It’s a staple holiday tradition for a reason, and you can witness it all coming to life!
On Dec. 1, 2025, the garden’s 55 acres will officially light up for the first night of the season. Visitors can stroll through the Twelve Days of Christmas displays, with traditional carolling guiding each step. There will also be a festive brass band playing in the background, and hot chocolate and gingerbread to enjoy by a fire if you need to warm up.
You can also glide across an outdoor ice skating rink before or after your leisurely walk through the 120-year-old garden. Skate rentals are available, with reservations made at the Information Centre upon arrival. Skate sessions begin at 3 p.m. and are based on availability and weather conditions.
On opening day (Dec. 1, 2025), visitors can enjoy free carousel rides following the official “light up” at 5 p.m.
Ready to explore this magical winter wonderland? Butchart Gardens is transforming for the holidays from 5 p.m. on Dec. 1, 2025, to Jan. 6, 2026, operating from 3 to 9 p.m. each day the garden is open (viewing open until 10 p.m.).
Tickets with timed entries are available online for $39.50 per adult, $19.75 for youth (ages 13 to 17) and $5 per child (ages 5 to 12).
Note that leashed pets are only permitted at the experience from 8 to 10 p.m., and the Japanese and Mediterranean Gardens are closed during Christmas.
