I have several young plants in very small pots (~4”) that I want to train to climb but obviously their pots are way too small to put a moss pole into. Should I go ahead and transfer them to larger pots even if they aren’t very big or should I wait until they get larger?

Wait until they get larger. Both should climb well though.

Start early. Use a soft tie like garden twine or velcro tape to gently attach the main stem to a moss pole or plank

Repot with moss pole. I have several plants in pots that are not much larger the size of the pole and are super happy. Means you will need to upsize the pot reasonably soon but thats not a big deal.

Also dont ignore the simple plank setup, i have some of those too and they are also doing fine. Hard to chop though.
