debating whether to plant orderly drifts of plugs or broadcast prairie seeds around (I have a giant prairie moon bag) Would love input as I want it to look great and support wildlife. Zone 5b IA.

Seeding into a thick layer of leaves might lead to spotty germination, unless you pull back the leaves in spring or something. I personally went with the disorderly plugs approach, lol. I do recommend plugs for a high visibility residential area, as they’ll fill in way faster and you have more control over what appears. You could always scatter seeds and plant some plugs so it fills in a little faster.

Since this is on a corner right next to sidewalk, I’d go with orderly drifts. They’ll get more disordered over time as things seed around, but starting with something a little more planned would fit the space. Plugs are also much faster to establish which is key in a high-visibility area. Have fun!

Are those Red Twig dogwoods? What are the seed species in your mix ?
