Shepherd’s Cove Hospice in Albertville lives by the words of community, compassion and connection.
On Tuesday morning they opened the doors of the community room for a free breakfast and then held a ribbon cutting for their new “Children’s Activity Garden” located at their facility.
With one in nine children in Alabama experiencing a loss of a parent or sibling by age 18, Shepherd’s Cove Hospice saw a need and wanted to help.
The Children’s Activity Garden is space where children and teenagers can come to deal with their emotions but also have the freedom and space to still be a child and play.
“Thank you all for being here this morning. We are so thankful for our community and for our partners and for everyone in this room, for your continued support,” said Stormy Hester, Shepherd’s Cove CEO who spoke at the breakfast before the ribbon cutting. “At the heart of what we do we are a hospice agency, that’s our main focus, we take care of those who are terminally ill. That is a heavy, heavy thing. So, we love to be able to do other things in the community and give back. We are the only community-based hospice here and that’s what sets us apart. Because we are able to do these things, like our Bereavement Program, our Children’s Activity Garden and our Palliative Care Program. We give back in ways that some of our competitors, I guess I could say, do not do.”
After the breakfast all in attendance were invited to the ribbon cutting of the Children’s Activity Garden.
“This meaningful space was made possible through the generosity of our community to Shepherd’s Cove Foundation and was created with love to give children a place where they can simply be children, even during the hard times of a loved one’s end-of-life journey,” said Emily Sims, Foundation Director. “This November, we are recognizing National Hospice Month by opening our doors and our hearts to the community that makes our mission possible.”
