Hey friends, names Dakota and I live in the Laurel highlands of sw PA. I drank the native planting kool-aid 2 years ago and am always diligent to remove the invasives.

Well, my place of employment happens to be on an acre of woods. The woods are littered with oriental bittersweet/Japanese honeysuckle/Japanese knotweed/and border privet.

I only get a one hour lunch break and dammit, I’m going to make this patch of land a native oasis. There’s plenty of Asters-goldenrod-native tree on the landscape but they’re slowly being swallowed by the baddies.

Today, I found a beautiful red twigged slippery dogwood naturally growing in a wet ravine and it was beginning to be overrun by honeysuckle. It was an hours worth of work with a million more to go.

This post has no point, just try and steward the land around you. Live WITH the plants, animals, organisms. Hell, I’m working on a property owned by a billion dollar corp who could fix this with the snap of a finger, but we know that will never happen.

  1. It’s so rewarding. Are you going to introduce any seed this winter? Ernst is a great supplier here in pa.
