A council leader said he was “lost for words” after vandals attacked a popular community garden for the second time in two weeks.
The Eco Therapy Garden in Kirkby, Merseyside, was broken into on 4 November, with children’s toys stolen and set on fire.
The gardens were raided again 10 days later, causing damage estimated at thousands of pounds and leading to a toddlers’ event being cancelled.
Knowsley Council leader Graham Morgan told BBC Radio Merseyside the vandals were “wrecking their local community”.
Morgan added: “If we ever caught these people, I’d just like to sit down and say, ‘What was going through your mind when you did this? You’ll soon be growing up, it might be your children who want to use this facility’.”
The garden in Tower Hill has been serving the community since 2017 and is free-of-charge, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
Merseyside Police said it was investigating the vandalism, which volunteers said had left them “devastated”.
