Monty Don fans have rallied around the gardening icon following a “major flood” at his residence. “Monty, renowned for his appearances on BBC Gardeners’ World, shared shocking images and footage on Instagram this month. They revealed the extent of the flooding at his Herefordshire home, which he shares with his wife, Sarah, and their two dogs, Patti and Ned.”

His property also boasts the expansive Longmeadow garden, a familiar sight to viewers of the show. In one post, Monty shared an image of the water creeping into a section of his garden, with Ned observing the scene. The gardening guru, who has previously spoken about what he considers the “bane” of his life, captioned the post: “A little wet in the garden this morning after yesterday’s storm that dropped a month’s worth of rain in 24 hours.”

He also posted a dramatic photo showing the floodwaters swallowing up the land and encircling the base of a large tree.

He commented: “There has been really bad flooding in this part of the country and homes and businesses have suffered very badly, so we are lucky that it is just the fields and garden that is wet here.”

In another post, Monty reflected on the “transformative beauty” of floods, noting that he and Sarah are “used to floods” due to their location near a river and water meadows.

However, in a more light-hearted post, Monty also shared a video of Ned frolicking through the floodwater in pursuit of his ball, remarking that the “small matter of a major flood” wouldn’t deter him from his mission.

Meanwhile, his fans took to the comments section with messages of support for the gardening expert. One sympathetically remarked: “Monty, I feel for you and your surrounding neighbours! Take care.”

Another expressed concern, saying: “OMG! So sad for you! The leaves are still hanging on the trees and their roots are standing in the water… hope you and your dogs are well!”

This is not the first time Monty has experienced flooding. In January, he explained that they “live on a flood plain,” meaning it has “always been part of life there,” according to Hello!, though it has “definitely got worse.”

In January of the previous year, Monty gave more details about the local flooding situation. He observed: “It has barely stopped raining for the past three months, and as I write this, the fields as far as the eye can see are underwater, as are sections of the garden.”

He added: “Mostly all this rain just means mud, slippery paths, and the frustration of not being able to get on with much work in the garden without making a terrible mess.”

Monty and Sarah purchased the property in October 1991 and reportedly spent a decade restoring it—a task that Monty described to The English Home as a “privilege and joy”.
