A massive fire broke out at Santiago’s Beer Garden in East Harlem, Manhattan, sending thick smoke and bright flames high above the neighborhood.
The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) raised the response to a multiple-alarm fire as crews rushed to stop the flames from spreading. People nearby were told to avoid the area, stay indoors, and keep their windows closed.

Videos of the fire went viral online. Some wrote that the fire looked “unreal” and compared it to a movie scene.
Others said they could see the fire from several blocks away. A few users posted prayers for everyone inside the building, hoping that all workers and customers got out safely.
Some thanked the firefighters, calling them “heroes” for running into danger while everyone else was running away.
A few local residents said the fire made the whole neighborhood smell of smoke.
Was Anyone Injured?
Scanner updates said the beer garden was “fully involved” and that the fire had spread into two nearby buildings. Fire crews continued to arrive, and command raised the alarm level again as flames reached upper floors.
One scanner report mentioned a minor civilian injury being checked by the medical team, but officials have not confirmed any injuries yet.
Fire crews are still working to bring the blaze under control. The cause of the fire will be investigated once the area is safe.
