HARLEM – A four-alarm fire tore through a beer garden in East Harlem on Tuesday evening, according to the FDNY.

What we know:

Fire officials received a call around 6:00 p.m. reporting flames at 2337 First Avenue, between East 119th Street and East 120th Street. 

Crews arrived to find a heavy fire inside a three-story, 20-by-60-foot mixed-occupancy building.

Timeline:

The fire intensified rapidly, prompting a second alarm at 6:10 p.m., a third at 6:17 p.m., and a fourth at 6:52 p.m. officials said.

The flames spread to nearby structures as firefighters worked to contain them. 

One person was treated by EMS at the scene but refused further medical attention.

As of Tuesday evening, fire operations remained ongoing. 

What we don’t know:

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
