Monty Don supporters have rallied around the gardening expert following his recent ordeal with a “major flood” at his residence. Through videos and photographs posted to his Instagram account this month, Monty revealed the shocking effects of flooding at his Herefordshire home, which he shares with his wife, Sarah, and their two dogs, Patti and Ned.
The property is also home to his stunning Longmeadow garden, familiar to viewers of BBC Gardeners’ World. In one post, Monty shared an image of water encroaching on a section of his garden, with Ned observing the scene.
Monty, who previously disclosed what he considers the “bane” of his existence, wrote: “A little wet in the garden this morning after yesterday’s storm that dropped a month’s worth of rain in 24 hours.”
He went on to share a striking photo showing the floodwaters engulfing the land and surrounding the trunk of a large tree.

“There has been really bad flooding in this part of the country and homes and businesses have suffered very badly, so we are lucky that it is just the fields and garden that is wet here,” he commented.
In another post, Monty highlighted the “transformative beauty” of floods, noting that he and Sarah are “used to floods” given their location near a river and water meadows.
Nevertheless, in a more cheerful update, Monty also posted footage of Ned frolicking through the floodwater while attempting to fetch his ball, remarking that the “small matter of a major flood” wouldn’t deter him from his mission.

Meanwhile, his supporters flocked to the comments section to offer words of encouragement to the horticultural presenter. One commented: “Monty, I feel for you and your surrounding neighbours! Take care.”
Another added: “OMG! So sad for you! The leaves are still hanging on the trees and their roots are standing in the water… hope you and your dogs are well!”
This is not the first time Monty has experienced flooding. In January, he explained that they “live on a flood plain,” meaning it has “always been part of life there,” though it has “definitely got worse,” reports Hello!

In January of last year, Monty shared further insights on local flooding, saying: “It has barely stopped raining for the past three months, and as I write this the fields as far as the eye can see are underwater, as are sections of the garden.”
He added: “Mostly all this rain just means mud, slippery paths and the frustration of not being able to get on with much work in the garden without making a terrible mess.”
Monty and Sarah purchased the property in October 1991 and reportedly spent a decade restoring it—a task that Monty described toThe English Home as a “privilege and joy”.
