UFC 322: Matheus Camilo full post-fight interview

UFC 322 winner Matheus Camilo spoke to MMA Junkie and reporters post-fight after his unanimous decision victory over Viacheslav Borshchev

NEW YORK – Matheus Camilo met the media Saturday after his win over Viacheslav Borshchev at UFC 322.

Camilo (10-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) outworked Borshchev (8-7-1 MMA, 3-6-1 UFC) for a unanimous decision to open the prelims at Madison Square Garden. Camilo’s win came with a pair of 30-27 scores from the judges for his first win in the promotion.

The win was Camilo’s first in the UFC, and it came in the most famous fighting venue in the world.

“There was a lot of adrenaline because I dreamed of this since I was a kid, and I’m living my dream right now,” Camilo said at his post-fight news conference. “This is like a dream. I don’t believe it yet. Maybe in a few hours, I’ll come to reality. But I’m so happy.”

Camilo said in between the second and third rounds, his cornermen helped motivate him with short personal messages – including about his father.

And that carried over to after the fight, when Camilo recalled his childhood dreaming of the very moment he’s now living out. When Camilo was a kid in Brazil, he zigged toward MMA when most his age were zagging toward soccer.

“This means a lot to me. I’m so grateful to be here. When you’re a kid and you dream of something – in Brazil, a lot of kids dream to be a soccer player. But I dreamed to be a UFC fighter. So my first win means a lot to me.”
