



This pine tree was at least 50' and it snapped near the base in heavy wind yesterday. I always thought it was healthy until this and now I see it has a grayish patch on the bark and some black beneath the bark. I am curious what this is and if it could have caused the weak ess that allowed the tree to snap. It fell on a mature Sugar Maple and some other smaller woody plants. We will hire an arborist and a tree service. Insight and advice are needed. Location Central Maryland
