It started growing in on of my boxes and honestly can't remember if I planted something or if it's a volunteer

That there would be a po-ta-toe. Boil or mash them, cook them in a stew

    That which sustains us,
That which we have to give thanks to the mezzo American ancestors thanks,
    The humble and glorious potato!

Question: these are all in a bed, with spacing, and covered in let’s say straw. Did you forget that’s what you planted, did you just move into a place that had these planted, or is there another reason why you didn’t know what they were, because it looks like they were tended to and cared for.

Will they grow thru the winter if left unattended like this?

no hate but i genuinely can’t believe that you *might* have planted something and then not recognize POTATO leaves of all things. it’s like asking what’s this when looking at a tomato on the vine

Looks like potatoes to me. Seems they’re in an ideal environment. Saved you a bunch of work!

If no one has added: the foliage you see now will flower. And it will produce above-ground GREEN fruit. Sorta like thick skinned green tomatoes in appearance? Whatever you do, DONT EAT THE FRUIT.

Once the plant naturally dies back, you can harvest. If your weather is turning to winter soon, harvest all before frost. If you have lots of time but it will cool off soon? Harvest as you need them. If it’s hot still when the plant dies? Harvest and move all to a root cellar.

Potatoes should not be stored in direct sun, or they turn green. This is the production of a toxin called solanine. You will regret eating green potatoes!

Enjoy! They’re worlds better than store bought!!
