G13 Gallery in Kuala Lumpur is presenting The Promised Garden, a solo exhibition by Malaysian contemporary artist Najib Bamadhaj, from Nov 22 to Dec 6.
This exhibition features a new body of work inspired by Najib’s visit to Claude Monet’s garden in Giverny, France, earlier this year.
In this series, Najib reflects on how beauty is created through time, effort and persistence.
Inspired by Monet’s garden, he draws a connection between the act of nurturing a garden and the process of creating art.
Working with acrylic, bitumen, silver and gold leaf on jute, he transforms his canvases into vivid landscapes where colour, texture and light converge.

The recurring motif of butterflies across his works serves as a metaphor for transformation, fragility and grace.
Najib’s reinterpretation of Giverny’s garden is not a direct depiction but a personal response to the experience of witnessing beauty cultivated through vision and endurance.
Through this exhibition, Najib invites viewers to consider how beauty – whether in nature or in art – is never immediate.
It must be nurtured and cared for before it can fully reveal itself.
