I recently got my hands on a Fabrikor wide from a friend in the plant community for free. I’ve always had a knack for acquiring things for free I mean I found over 1,000 old school vinyls available FREE—GOT THEM EXPEDITIOUSLY. Found 3 curio cabinets (at different time periods) with functional electrical and locking mechanisms for FREE- GOT THEM. My Christmas tree that is over $800 from AT HOME? How do I know that? When I got it from the original owner it was still in the box with the receipt because they ARE WELL KEPT ADULTS I GUESS. They bought a new tree and they “didn’t need it anymore” I’d wager they didn’t need the new one either but THANK YOU nonetheless 😫 Did I score a vintage Leon Rosen Style Glass dining table and 4 upholstered seat with cane baking FREE cesca chairs (acquired at 2 very separate times) and what’re the odds these free vintage and authentic DREAM chairs were two different brands with two of the same chairs each? Idk the odds but low. All in working condition and fixed up back to beauty. Idk what I got but we’ll call it luck and tenacity.
Back to the Fabrikör, removed all the glass except for the doors. I taped the glass on the doors with dollar tree painters tape. Unless you want to pay for a glass cut yourself, don’t mess with the glass panels on the doors. Trust. I didn’t have to do that because I chose to listen to myself instead 😂 Sanded the shiny layer off of everything I wanted to spray paint; it took 10 minutes. I used sand paper from the dollar tree. And primed the doors then sprayed RUSTOLEUM-Brick Red; Satin on the doors but bought more spray paint due to an issue I had with the doors LOL. (Mind you, the primer and spray paint were from previous projects) Sprayed the red spray paint on the body everywhere, I did not prime the body. Idk why. Oh well. Worked out. I don’t recommend doing that. Would’ve used a lot less spray paint than if I had primed the frame of the body first. Yes the keyboard warriors are correct. Iet it dry a day.
Cleaned the glass really well and reassembled the display stand. Used T Birrina 1 ft grow lights- White (4) at the top (the lights are magnetic so they just pop up there since the Fabrikör frame is metal) and wired the cords through a back glass panel by opening the brackets and pushing the cords out of the back then closed the metal brackets around the glass to keep everything in place. I did not drill a single thing on this entire project. I used Alien tape I got from Lowes to stick dollar tree acrylic shelves onto the glass. It’s a thick and almost starburst consistency tape that’s sticky on both sides. Virtually clear and seamless on glass. It’s the best tape ever and holds a lot of weight. And stuck my shelving up with multiple cuts of the tape to ensure weight distribution at different specific places to ensure each plant has decent room to spread out.
I was not going to spend $80 on one shelf from an Etsy seller that deserved every dollar they charged 😀 I will spend $15 though for 12 shelves that are also multifunctional too.
Ikea needs to drop a retro line of Rudsta, Milsbo and Fabrikör display cabinets with Cerulean Blue, Lincoln Green, and Cadmium Yellow. I wouldn’t even mind a Burnt Umber Brown or Vermillion Orange. Tell me I’m wrong. 😩😩 the way they’d have us ALL in line like it was an Apple release in 2009
Anyways, super fun project and the end result I really love in my opinion. Hoping to see some future DIY’s of these display cabinets with more curated personality in the body than peel and stick paper and unique shelves with holes and monstera leaves etched into them while ALSO reducing, reusing, or recycling something along the way of the project. Anyone have pics of their own painted ikea Cabinet?

Super cute
I like the little shelves you have! Where did you get them?
Beautiful cabinet.
You’re going to need a bigger one, good thing you got your practice in on the smaller one 😉
