LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — The Hill City is making way for a new space where children can play. Pierce Street Gateway, a local nonprofit, unveiled its new pavilion and children’s play garden on Friday.
It’s part of the nonprofit’s goal to preserve the history of Pierce Street and grow community engagement.

“We’re standing right here in our children’s play garden, and that’s going to provide a fun and safe space to play and hang out during those events, and we’re super excited for all the opportunities that will bring,” said Hayley Jones, the community engagement coordinator for Pierce Street Gateway.
Jones said the yard and garden will be open to the community 24-7. Their next event will be a farmer’s market pop-up on the first Thursday of May in 2026.
