COOK COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) – Cook Primary School has reached its $12,000 fundraising goal to build a new literacy garden, before the event even began.

School leaders confirmed the milestone was met before 8 a.m., with donations continuing to come in. Extra funds will go toward additional renovations and expanding the outdoor learning space.

The project aims to take learning beyond the classroom, giving students a fun, hands-on environment to read, explore, and connect with nature. Parents say the garden will make learning more engaging, while teachers plan to use it for reading time, small-group lessons, and outdoor activities.

Principal Jeanne Dixon says the strong support from families has made the effort possible. “We are so excited to invite all of our parents out because we have been doing a fundraiser to bring learning outside,” Dixon said. “Usually learning happens inside in the classroom, we want to make it fun at Cook Primary, not just for our teachers but for our students, so our parents are here supporting that fundraiser.”
