    Anything that requires cold stratification

For the life of me i canโ€™t get Spigelia marilandica- Indian pinks to germ. Dried seeds, green seeds, cold strat, idk.

Definitely any species that has double dormancy. Looking at you Eastern wahoo and bladdernut ๐Ÿ˜ก lol.

In my experience, most of them lol. Iโ€™m pretty terrible at seed starting.

Doesnโ€™t stop me from trying though. This year Iโ€™m going to actually get *good* soil for it, hopefully that will help.

Canadian Anemone. Double strat, with a warm period. Other double strats I’ve had way better success with. That one is particularly hard.

i’m gonna start with the plant that inspired this meme, Retama raetam (white weeping broom), a gorgeous and extremely fragrant broom species, mostly found in the Saharan desert throughout northern Africa, although the subs. gussonei I’m trying to germinate is endemic to sandy beaches in southern Sicily. Like many legumes, the seeds have an incredibly tough outer shell to protect them from drought, in nature this would get worn down by the sand in a year or two. I tried to germinate this plant four times over the past 3 years, the first time I actually got 2 sprouts but I was a complete nooby to growing by seed and both died, the next 2 attempts were complete fails, and today was my fourth attempt. An article I read on the plant (there aren’t many btw even tho it’s a keystone species in much of the central saharan desert) suggested boiling them for 5 minutes held the best germination rate. I planted 5 untouched seeds and 5 boiled ones directly into the ground to avoid messing with their atrociously long taproot, hope I get something ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿคž

Have never gotten trillium or ramps to sprout. Or they might be hanging out underground waiting for me to stop looking for them lol.

It’s the one that will pop up repeatedly in the compost pile, or the crack in the driveway….

for me, personally, it is roundhead bushclover (*Lespedeza capitata*) which is super weird because it does quite well for itself around here on its own.

For me it’s milkweed. Know idea why I can’t seem to get it to germinate.

Mountain mint. Itโ€™s supposed to be easy! ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Hickories and walnuts! Nothing pops up above the soil until early June in my Z6

American holly easily. Takes anywhere from 16 months to 3 years.

I’m *hoping* I don’t have this issue with drooping trillium! They’re double dormancy, so we’ll have to wait and see
