I'll start by saying that I'm no pro, but having been in business for 2 full years now I've certainly learned a lot. With all the talk within the community of us needing more growers, I figured I could share what I've learned to help others get started. I'm thinking things like:
- Licenses and regs: business and state nursery licensure, state shipping regs
- Shipping and packing: all the horrors
- Finances: I'm happy to share my full budget for the year and talk how/whether you can make a profit
- Understanding the market: what people seem to want and setting up a website and other sales channels
- Propagation by seed/cutting: techniques and species
- Nursery setup, space management, and other operations
