Spudman, who has over 4.2 million followers on TikTok, stopped by Whitesyke Garden Centre of Longtown while on holiday with his family.

It was part of a trip to promote his seed potato range, created in partnership with Jamieson Brothers Potatoes of Annan.

Pam and Lawrence Barr, who run the family-owned garden centre, hosted both families for lunch and invited Spudman to cut the ribbon to officially open their Christmas shop.

Lawrence said: “It was a lovely afternoon, and he stayed for a good few hours. I can understand why he’s so popular online. He is a really nice human being – so pleasant.”

Customers in the tearoom and centre were quick to spot the viral star.

Lawrence added: “People recognised him straight away. He enjoyed his visit. I think his kids loved looking at all the toys and the Christmas decorations in the garden centre.”

Spudman and his family spent the afternoon at the garden centre, enjoying lunch in one of its cabins alongside the Barbour family from Jamieson Brothers.

The visit proved a hit on social media too – Whitesyke Garden Centre’s post about the day attracted around 700 likes.

At the time of the visit, Spudman hadn’t yet shared the trip on his own social channels, so it could come as a surprise to local fans if he later posts footage featuring a few familiar faces.

Spudman was not the only person who turned heads on the day, Pam Barr dressed up in a full potato costume to help promote the seed range.

Lawrence laughed: “I think Spudman was highly amused!”
