FLANDREAU, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The Moody County Boys & Girls Club, in partnership with Groundworks Connect, announced a brand new initiative on Wednesday.
The Teaching Gardens is a hands-on project that will engage youth, families, and community members in the shared experience of planting, growing, and learning together.
The gardens will serve as outdoor classrooms where students can explore lessons in science, nutrition, sustainability, and the importance of community connection, all while growing fresh, healthy food.
“It’s accountability, it’s responsibility, it’s teaching them life lessons. We all know food is never going to go away, and any time we always need to be prepared for different things, and the fact that they can do something for themselves, and depending on how many vegetables we have give back to the community. Giving them pride in something that they built, it doesn’t get any better than that,” said Keilani Klimczuk with the Boys & Girls Club of Moody County.
Leaders said that the project is an incredible opportunity to serve the community and grow hope now and for a generation.
