The previous owner of our home completely stripped the top soil from the yard, then covered it with weed fabric and river rock. Since this made the yard impossible to walk across or care for without bombing it with herbicide, we stripped all of that off and brought in new soil. Since then, I’ve been attempting to establish a mix of eco grass from Prairie Moon and yarrow to try and mimic the plant community in the woods around us. I’ve also seeded clover in the tougher areas, which I regret. The goal is low maintenance – no/low mow and minimal watering because we’re on a cistern. Zone 5, eastern Montana.
The yarrow is coming in slowly but the eco grass and clover dies back in the hot eastern Montana sun. Eco grass is cool season so it is green in spring and fall and in the shade. This has allowed weeds to take over, including dove’s foot crane’s bill.
Is there any reason I should care about this weed? As long as I don’t have to mow it and the dogs and kids can play on it, it seems fine. If not, how do I get rid of it without killing the yarrow?

Photos included with post show an up close image of the plant. Second picture is an overview of yard with patches of eco grass, thatching and weeds.
I say don’t fight nature, esp in Eastern MT (native Montanan here). Not sure what that plant does in the fall. Do the pointy seeds have any stickers or do they get all stuck in your socks, etc? That would be my concern, but otherwise, I say leave them.
