So I know dill isn't native but the swallowtail love them and they are native. Temps are starting to get low, below freezing. So I was doing one last round up of cleaning the garden and I saw 3 eastern black swallowtail caterpillars on one dill plant. Its been a week inside and they are doing great, once they form the chrysalis they'll going into the garage or basement not sure which one yet.
I haven't been native gardening for that long but getting to see the wild life is definitely a perk. The same day I grabbed these guys I also saw a pheasant(sorry for the bad quality pheasant picture i didnt wanna scare it). I live in the city and first time ever seeing one in my backyard. It was eating the switchgrass seeds, pretty cool guys.

Swallowtails need the cold to overwinter properly, bringing them indoors is ill-advised. The pheasant is cool as fuck though!
So cool that you got a pheasant in your yard!!! I love them, I would be so excited
Wow! Wildlife wins here
