    That is the very spectacular hylocalycium, a rare chimaera formed by chance during the moon cactus grafting process.

    Graft chimaeras are created on purpose in some orchards, but chimaeric cacti are very rare because there’s no surefire way to actually make them. The reason we have hylocalycium is because of the sheer volume of moon cacti that are grafted.
