On Tuesday, the government approved the decision for National Botanical Garden of Latvia to be attached to the Nature Conservation Agency (DAP) from next year. The decision is based on better operational efficiency and less bureaucracy.

The Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development will form the liquidation commission for the Latvian National Botanical Garden.

The Botanical Garden will transfer 99 posts to the DAP. Seven posts are to be abolished.

The Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development previously explained that the two institutions have a number of similar functions which complement each other in the field of nature conservation and biodiversity conservation. Both institutions run nature centres which provide non-formal education for different target audiences.
