Mrs Badenoch laid a cross in Parliament’s 2025 Garden of Remembrance in honour of those who served from her constituency.
The garden, in New Palace Yard outside Westminster Hall, was established in 2021 by the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, in partnership with the Royal British Legion.
It allows all 650 MPs across the UK to take part in a collective act of remembrance at the heart of parliamentary democracy.
Mrs Badenoch dedicated the cross to all constituents who served, including William Gilbey from Saffron Walden, one of the area’s earliest casualties of the First World War.
Mr Gilbey joined the Royal Navy at 15 and was killed at 27 when HMS Pathfinder was sunk by a German submarine in September 1914.
Mrs Badenoch said: “It is always a privilege to visit the Garden of Remembrance and to lay a cross on behalf of North West Essex.
“Each cross represents the collective sacrifice of an entire community – those who served, those who never returned, and the families who bore their loss.
“This act of remembrance is a moment to reflect on the courage and duty that bind our country together and to renew our commitment to the values they fought to defend.”
