I love the seasonal activity in my yard, the year-round flowers, and the joy of watching things come back to life and grow. But there's a peace and a joy to winter that I've always loved the most. A little snow here in Western NC today and it's completely transformed the yard. Just wanted to wax poetic for a bit. Enjoy the pictures.

Left to right: Fothergilla, spent Echinacea flowers, native strawberry bush (hearts-a-bustin'), and spent solidago and the switchgrass.

I’m with you. For me, the most breathtaking seasonal cycle begins when leaves start to fade in September.

Of course, part of what I love so much is the peace of not having to fight with actively growing invasives! It’s a little detente where I can just enjoy the clinging beech leaves, the few evergreens and the frost, til those delicate spring ephemerals start to show up again.

I love the fallen leaves for that peaceful vibe. The green of winter lawns stresses me out bc everything’s supposed to be sleeping lol

Yes! I try to plan for “winter interest” in my garden. It helps me through the gardening withdrawals in the depths of the cold season.

    Gorgeous!

I’ve been thrilled with my garden in autumn and can’t wait to see it in when/if we get some snow.

There is a beauty in winter. Stark, silhouetted. Asleep. But it’s there.

I love cold weather but we’re dipping below freezing tonight and my late season butterfly friends are going to die. I’ll miss them.
