Help!

This is my first season growing a lemon tree. I bought a sprig in the spring and kept it outside in a planter all summer. I recently moved my Meyer lemon tree inside since the first frost is coming. The leaves have always been yellow, but it’s looking more sad than usual and after googling I found that the leaves are typically green.

Is there something wrong with my plant?

For reference, the plant was probably only getting about 6 hours of direct sunlight before moving it inside. Now it’s only getting ambient light thru the windows. I didn’t water very often when it was outside, since it got some natural rain water. Also, there are four holes drilled in the bottom four corners of the planter to allow drainage.

My hypothesis (in order) is:
1. Nutrient deficiency
2. Irregular watering
3. Lack of sun light

Lemon trees need bright, direct light. Think about where they grow, Florida, California, Mexico etc.

They are not suited to be indoors in a pot.

It needs a strong dedicated grow light for overwintering and next summer when you put it outside, find a spot where it will get at least 8 hours of direct light after acclimating it back into full sun. It will probably drop the yellow leaves but hopefully it will start putting out new green leaves once it’s getting good light. Don’t fertilize until it starts putting out new growth again.

Looks better than mine did at that age, I’m no master gardener but if it were my plant I would put it in a bigger pot, use 10-10-10 and give it some iron, place in direct sunlight and you’ll be good.

You are right on all your suspicions.

Citrus plants need lots of light and acidic soil. Check the pH of your soil
