FITCHBURG — The Laurelwood Garden Club will hold its regular monthly meeting at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at the Fitchburg Historical Society, 781 Main St.

Guest speaker Judith Taylor, owner of Seeds2Plate, will present “Adventures in Propagation”, focusing primarily on houseplants — with outdoor plants also covered.

“This discussion and slide presentation will include basic methods of propagation, types of growing mediums to use, and when to propagate,” explained Taylor. “I will also have samples to share as part of my presentation.”

Taylor brings 25 years of gardening experience in Massachusetts. A graduate of the UMass Green School, she has also attended The Seed Savers Exchange Seed School and earned the UMass certificate in Pollinator Stewardship. She shares her knowledge through garden consulting and by speaking at various clubs and public libraries.

“Whether you are new to gardening or you are a plant expert, this program will help with basic information – and help take away the winter blues”, said Julie Palioca, Laurelwood Garden Club Public Relations and Beautification Chair. “The results will be saving money and sharing plants with friends and club members.”

Members are also looking forward to the club’s annual holiday luncheon, to be held from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Slattery’s Restaurant, 106 Lunenburg St. Members are asked to bring a tree ornament to participate in a fun holiday game.

The annual Scholarship Tea, which benefits the club’s scholarship fund, will take place from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, at the Fitchburg Art Museum, 185 Elm St. Guests will enjoy themed tablescapes, savories and sweets, and English Irish Tea. Reservations are required.

“The Laurelwood Garden Club is proud to offer a scholarship to a high school senior who will pursue an education in agricultural, horticultural, landscaping design or architecture, conservation, forestry, agronomy, city planning, land management, botany, biology and environmental studies,” added Palioca.

The club will welcome spring with a workshop on Friday, Feb. 13, where members will create a living piece of seasonal art using a hyacinth bulb and green moss.

A floral design interpretation, “The Next Step in Floral Design”, will highlight the March 13 meeting.

“This workshop will be helpful to members and friends who are interested in interpreting artwork for the annual Art in Bloom event”, said Palioca.

The Laurelwood Garden Club will partner with the Fitchburg Art Museum to host the 28th Annual Art in Bloom, set for Thursday April 23 through Saturday, April 26, 2026 at the Fitchburg Art Museum.

A guided painting workshop is also planned for the club’s April 10, 2026, meeting, where members can take home their 11-by-14 masterpiece.

Regular meetings — which include speakers and programs — are held on the second Friday of the month from 9 a.m. until noon, September through June.

A member of the Central North District of the Garden Club Federation of Mass, Inc. (GCFM), the Laurelwood Garden Club is affiliated with the National Garden Clubs Incorporated, New England Region.

“Membership and meetings are open to guests who enjoy any type of gardening and are interested in floral design and working with flowers and programs offered,” Palioca added.
