I’ve been growing succulents & cacti for 7 years and in that time I have not had a single echeveria bloom… anyone have any ideas why or what I can be doing differently to encourage it? My dream is to be able to create hybrids & cultivars of my own someday.
Growing conditions:
-
Lights: grow lights (LED, 6500k, ~300 μmol/m²/s) kept on 15 hours per day
-
Substrate: equal parts local cactus soil (80% inorganic), pumice, turface, crushed granite
-
Watering: full watering w/ fertilizer once every 1-2 months (depending on how busy I am w/ college), and spot watering as needed (if leaves are flimsy)
-
Fertilizer: (see pics 3&4) just recently started using this fertilizer about 6 months ago, but have played around with different kinds in the past (bat guano, kelp, earthworm castings, etc.)
-
Pots: sturdy plastic with proper drainage and “feet” to allow for air flow
-
Airflow: have 1 fan overhead, 1 room fan & 2 shelf fans
-
Humidity: kept at 50% or less (have a dehumidifier in the room as well as an air cleaner)
-
Temp: ~76°F during the day, ~63°F during the night
-
Insects/Mites/Fungal: I use Bonide systemic insecticide granules regularly, check for pests & mites with a loupe thoroughly with each plant before they’re allowed in the grow room, and if I see any signs of fungal disease I isolate & treat, but I’ve been able to mitigate things like powdery mildew with the air flow and humidity kept below 50%.
Any and all advice is welcome, thank you in advance~ ☺️❤️
