As the days grow shorter and the air becomes crisp with that pine-scented chill, Greenhouse Garden Center invites the community to their Christmas Open House on Saturday, Nov. 8, and Sunday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Greenhouse Garden Center is located at 2450 S. Curry Street in Carson City.
“Step into a world of color, texture, and imagination at our annual Christmas Open House,” David Ruf, owner of Greenhouse Garden Center, said. “Enjoy holiday sweets, treats, and a mimosa bar while you get inspired by themed trees, glistening décor, and festive displays.”
Ruf said another beloved Greenhouse tradition, The Sierra Alphorn Players, returns Saturday, Nov. 22, from 4-5 p.m.
“The Sierra Alphorn Players fill the greenhouse with joyful, echoing melodies that capture the spirit of the season,” Ruf said. “We invite the community to gather with friends and neighbors for an afternoon of music, warmth, and community connection.”
Ruf provides these tips for maintaining your landscape during winter. Ruf’s tips include:
Water twice this month: Trees and shrubs, especially those planted within the last two years, need deep watering before winter.
Protect from winter stress: Apply a plant protector like Wilt Stop to broadleaf evergreens and tie arborvitae and junipers to prevent snow damage.
Repel hungry visitors: Use repellents to keep rabbits and deer away during dormancy.
Bring pots and fountains inside: Prevent freeze damage by covering or storing clay and concrete garden décor.
Spray fruit trees and roses: Apply dormant spray and fungicides to eliminate overwintering insects and disease.
