Central London is about to be graced with a delicious new French bakery. ‘Copains’ – French for ‘friends’ – is the love child of mates Giovanni and Baptiste, and will open its doors on Neal Street on Tuesday, November 25.
But it’s deliciousness with a twist as the duo are committed to living a healthy lifestyle and so use alternative flours to traditional wheat. And therefore it caters to those with celiac and gluten intolerance conditions as ‘100 per cent’ of the food is gluten-free.
Lactose-free alternatives are also on the menu, and in some cases the food is completely vegan. Whether you want breads, cakes, pastries, or even drinks, there is something there for everyone.
But it’s not just food and drink you can buy there, you can also get your hands on clothing and accessories.
And it doesn’t just stop in Covent Garden, the chain has plans on opening a branch on Upper Street, in Islington, on top if its 18 other branches scattered across La France. There are also proposals to open up two new venues in Brussels, the capital of Belgium.
Although there aren’t yet any reviews, customers in France are certainly very chuffed. One happy American customer left the following review: “So wonderful I went twice!! they have a few locations and I wish we had them in NYC. I had pastries and a baguette. Not only was it delicious but the staff spoke English and was very educated and also had opinions of their favourites. A must!”
And a second raved: “Really high quality food with lots of vegan options too. My coeliac sister was thrilled! The cashier was very polite and clocked us as English immediately. He helped us read all the signs and made us some lovely coffee too. Will definitely be back.”
