The Yorkshire-born gardener and broadcaster has shared his advice on horticulture for decades, thanks to his work on numerous TV shows.

These include Gardeners’ World, Ground Force, and Love Your Garden, alongside presenting coverage of the Chelsea Flower Show.

Along with his wife Alison, Titchmarsh has lived near the town of Alton in Hampshire since 2002 after buying a Grade-II listed farmhouse.

After renovating the house, restoring and extending its outbuildings and creating a four-acre garden, the couple are now in the process of selling it, Country Life shares.

They plan to downsize to another Hampshire village house with a couple of acres.

Alan has also previously shared the two plants he would never add to his own garden, which he shared on the Talking Gardens podcast.

He added: “It looks like a collection of feather dusters sticking out of a mountain of grass.”

Alan also shared that he struggled with large-flowered Gladioli.

He explained: “They’re very good in church, I don’t mind them when they’re in a row on a veg patch, but they don’t work for me.

“I like little Gladiolus Byzantinus, the ones that grow in the hedgerows down in Cornwall.”

Even though Alan’s late friend Beth Chatto was a big admirer of them, to which he had to say: “Yes, Beth, you keep it in your garden and I’ll be happy.”

Alan also warned about Pampas grass being difficult to get rid of, as he shared: “Just remember if you ever want to get rid of it, you’ve got a real task ahead of you.”
