I got him in Spring 2025 and I have repotted him once with miraclegro soil. My friend’s pothos is younger than mine and it’s already got the signature pothos droop but mine keeps growing leaves at the base instead of vines. First time having any plant so am I just impatient?

  1. Basically, what can I do to make my pothos longer

Just impatient lol. Most people would be jealous that your plant is filling itself out before starting to vine out of the pot! Give it time !

This is actually great that your plant is full. It will also grow longer vines with a little more time.

Brighter light and a chunky soil mix (orchid bark/soil/perlite in equal parts) to start. In the 2nd pic, the cuttings look like they have been placed horizontally across the pot, as opposed to being planted vertically into the pot. The new leaves that are forming from these stems will grow into vines if given the right growing environment. What your plant is doing right now is establishing its ‘foundation’ before it begins the ‘building.’ With all that said, if your dirt is too dense (which will be the case if you have used only potting soil without the above or similar amendments; name brands mean nothing to plants) then the roots could also be struggling to breathe, (getting root rot) which in turn slows down growth on top. If you make some basic changes to its environment, you will see it take off. … On a side note, what is ‘signature pothos droop’? This is a term I have never heard, as pothos is a climbing plant in its native environment.
