My pagoda dogwood tree has mostly snapped at the trunk. Not sure if it’s from a deer or Halloween, but it’s been like this for a few days. What’s the best way to ensure its recovery? 7b

  1. Cut it off that’s too messy to heal even if you tried

It should start new growth next year, as long as the roots are alive.

It’s antler rubbing season. Like 03263 said, cut off the torn branches and let it work on healing, poor little dogwood.

Cut off the broken branch, and if the plant is healthy, it’ll start growing new branches right at the end of the trunk.

Pagoda dogwood are thankfully very resilient plants and your plant will recover. But it will probably take a few years before it gets to that size again. Maybe yours will grow faster since it looks to be in a fairly sunny spot. I have several in deep shade, and they don’t grow in height very quickly.

It’s still very young. Prune off the broken part and it will sport new growth next Spring.
