
Worm-like creature I saw dragging what looks like a pile of substrate to the surface. It would occasionally lose its grip and fall back down, only to immediately start climbing again. I later saw that it had made it to the surface, and was able to move along the surface by suctioning to it somehow.

This is a Dero vaga worm aka case-carrying worm. They are often confused with caddisfly larvae, but those have legs in the front.
They are detritus eaters, so very useful to have.
