The children don’t just yearn to return to the mines; they desire cozy farms where immense veggies and fruits can be grown. That would be the message being projected within Roblox thanks to the viral hit game Grow a Garden. And while the sky-high player numbers may have since tailed off comparatively (though it’s still pulling in over 300K concurrency on a Thursday morning), it’s apparently popular enough that some folks want to make a movie about it.
You read that correctly: Story Kitchen, a production company that specializes in bringing video games to TV and movie screens, has begun to work with the creators of Grow a Garden to put together a film adaptation. As one might expect, this movie will be less about the game’s loop itself and more about its messaging of “an uplifting story-world rooted in play, creativity, and community,” according to Story Kitchen co-founders Dmitri M. Johnson and Michael Lawrence Goldberg.
With the project in early development, the only things that are tied down so far are the producers and co-producers, while the plot will attempt to bring “a whimsical, emotional, and unexpectedly epic story about growth, friendship, and the magic that happens when you nurture something from the ground up.” Whoulda thunk, eh?
