Viral Roblox mini-game Grow A Garden is getting a movie adaptation.
Roblox mini-game Grow A Garden launched in March this year and sees players buying seeds, cultivating crops and selling them, before repeating the cycle. It sounds straightforward enough but the game has attracted a huge playerbase.
Grow A Garden has been visited more than 33.3billion times and favourited by more than 10million players in just six months. At one point in August, more than 22million people were playing concurrently (via RoMonitor). That’s higher than Fortnite’s biggest ever weekend (14.3million in 2020) and more than the population of London.
Now, a movie adaptation is in the works.

According to Deadline, video game production company Story Kitchen is currently working on the project alongside Grow A Garden’s creators. “Grow A Garden is exactly the kind of imaginative, heartfelt world we love to adapt; an uplifting story-world rooted in play, creativity, and community.” said Story Kitchen co-founders Dmitri M. Johnson and Michael Lawrence Goldberg in a statement.
The report says that the ambitious farming simulator adaptation will “invite audiences of all ages into a whimsical, emotional, and unexpectedly epic story about growth, friendship, and the magic that happens when you nurture something from the ground up.”
Grow a Garden “was the game we felt we could do in a way that could be impactful and emotional and take us on an adventure while honoring the game itself,” Johnson said in an interview with Bloomberg. “If we do our job right, this will be a family story and gets people to go outside.”
Story Kitchen launched in 2022 and is also working on an adaptation of Split Fiction, which is reportedly set to be directed by Wicked’s Jon M. Chu and star Sydney Sweeney, and is involved with Amazon’s Tomb Raider movie. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is heading up the adaptation and Game Of Thrones star Sophie Turner will be playing Lara Croft.
Last month another Roblox game, Jailbreak, was also confirmed to be getting a movie adaptation.
In other news, Nintendo has confirmed its working on creating its own cinematic universe with plans for a “consistent release” of new films.
