Team17, Roblox Corp.

Two new screen works based on video games have just been announced today.

First up, Netflix and A24 are teaming up to develop an unscripted competition reality TV series adaptation of Team17’s popular 2016 cooking simulation video game “Overcooked”.

In the title, multiple players have to work together as chefs to prepare, cook, and serve meals before time runs out in kitchens filled with various obstacles and hazards.

The tone, like “Floor Is Lava,” will be family-friendly. Gemma Langford, Oli De-Vine, and Phil Duncan will executive produce.

That’s not all. Story Kitchen has announced plans for a film adaptation of “Grow a Garden,” a phenomenon within Roblox. ‘Grow’ has achieved more than 33 billion plays since it launched in March and at one point this Summer, more than two-thirds of those on Roblox were playing the title.

In August, the game hit a peak concurrent player count of 22.3 million – surpassing the all-time high for “Fortnite” which hit 15.3 million concurrent players.

The game sees players cultivating thriving gardens, trading crops, decorating worlds, and collaborating in seasonal events. Story Kitchen is collaborating closely with the creative team behind the game to craft a narrative embodying the game’s uplifting, community-driven DNA.

Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, Jeremy Bolt, John Gaudiosi and John Benyamine will produce.
