More than 10 years after a woman was fatally shot in Miami Gardens, her husband who is accused of murdering her has been arrested, police said.
According to Miami Gardens Police and U.S. Marshals, Ramone O’Neil Clayton punched and shot his wife, 35-year-old Stephanie Clayton, during a gathering in Miami Gardens on Sept. 23, 2012.
Detectives said Stephanie was shot in the head and died from her injuries.
After shooting his wife, detectives said O’Neil Clayton fled the scene in his vehicle and hadn’t been seen since.

During their investigation, authorities had information that he may have been in the north Florida area, possibly headed to Texas, and ultimately trying to leave the country for his native Jamaica.
On Oct. 24, the San Diego Sheriff’s Office told Miami Gardens Police they received a tip that O’Neil Clayton, 41, was in San Diego.
On Oct. 27, he was arrested at his San Diego home with help from the FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service.
He is being charged with second-degree murder and is being held without bond in San Diego while he awaits extradition to South Florida.
Miami Gardens Police will hold a press conference Wednesday to discuss O’Neil Clayton’s arrest.
