Hi Reddit!

My wife and I are hoping for some inspiration. This is the front garden to our house and we’re at a bit of a loss with what to do with it. We have thought about putting some wildflowers towards the back at the fence, and a climber attached to the garage, but beyond that we have no idea.

Any ideas or thoughts?

I forgot to add in the post, but the soil type is clay and if you’re looking from the house at the garage wall then you are looking east (so the photo is looking north). We’re also in the Midlands.

I think the success of that patch of grass will, in-part, depend on what the big orange digger is doing on the other side of your fence. As it is, it doesn’t look like it’ll receive much light, so plant accordingly.

Do you have, or plan to have kids? You could pave it over, pop a basketball hoop on the side of your garage wall and have a lovely half-court, but that’s probably not what you’re looking for.

a nice peach at the fence. flowers below. its a small lawn, i would sow a bunch of short flowers in it with some stones to the back and just trim them every now and again

I’d put a centralised water bowl as a focal point with planting at the base, climbers on the wall and throughout the perimeter and maybe a little bench

I’d run a slim raised bed along the brick wall with simple wire trellis for star jasmine or clematis, then layer lavender, dwarf grasses, and heuchera, plus a couple of low uplights for evening glow. At the fence, curve a wildflower strip and add a small gravel pad with a birdbath or bistro chair, and turn the downpipe corner into a pebble rain garden for runoff. I usually use [Gardenly](https://gardenly.app) to visualize my ideas, maybe you could give that a try?
