A loaded shotgun was recovered after neighbourhood police officers spotted two men acting suspiciously. The suspects fled through a garden but were caught and arrested.

The incident began on Ludgate Road in Moston last night. The men, aged 22 and 41, have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm and remain in custody where they are being questioned.

Detective Inspector Mark Hodgson of City of Manchester North CID, said: “Thanks to the vigilance and swift actions of our neighbourhood policing team, a dangerous firearm was removed before it could be used in a serious crime.

“Loaded firearms pose an immediate and deadly threat to public safety — their presence on our streets risks lives and fuels serious crime.

“Neighbourhood officers play a vital role in keeping our communities safe, building trust, gathering local intelligence, and responding quickly to concerns raised by residents.

“This incident highlights the dedication and effectiveness of our neighbourhood patrols, whose presence allows potentially dangerous situations to be identified proactively and addressed swiftly, helping to remove weapons from the streets of Greater Manchester.

“While it’s fortunate that no one was injured, the use of firearms on our streets is completely unacceptable.”
