At Pop Century Resort at Disney World. With Disney being the king of small details, I imagine an arborist approved this decision (maybe I’m ignorant). What would be some good reasons to chop down such large crepe Myrtles?
Is aesthetics fine reason cut them back this much?

invasives?
Pure ignorance or laziness, or both. They will never be trees again.
Are you sure those are crepe myrtles? The sprouts around the bases don’t look like crepe myrtle leaves.
My guess is they’re Japanese blueberry trees
This is a good question though it will be a dumpster fire of opinions in here. Those aren’t Crape Myrtles but Disney does cut their Crapes back similarly on some of their properties.
Crapes aren’t native – their health and preservation isn’t really valuable to the ecosystem. Therefore I don’t care what people do with them. Stakeholders like Disney install species purely for aesthetics and they can afford to replace them every few years due to the poor structure and weak attachments.
Those arent crepe myrtles. Being at disney and seeing how they are constantly updating and changing stuff they are probably doing it for looks until they get the plants to replace them with. On our last 2 trips ive seen stuff like this and it was gone and replaced before we left
