Hi there. Welcome to the Gardens and Graveyard channel. Today we’re meeting in the front garden and we’re going to have a October garden tour and we’re going to start consolidating our garden. So, today we’re going to walk around our front yard and our herb garden. And you can stay tuned. We’ll be posting another video for our backyard and lower garden in the next um garden tour video. So, I’m going to get the camera turned around. It is October. We live on the Oregon coast in a zone 9A. We’ve had an amazing fall. It has been super warm and beautiful. Well, we’ve had some rain here and there, but the last few days have just been absolutely gorgeous. And so, we still have a lot of really beautiful things in bloom, which is just super fun because by this time often things have gotten so wet and moldy and gross, we’re just quickly cutting everything down. There’s some things that are declining, but we’re getting to enjoy this fall a little bit longer this time. So, let me turn the camera around and show you what’s going on. All right. So, we’re going to start here at the driveway as we always do and just move through and see what kind of awesomeness is happening. This is the amsonia which we just planted this year and it’s starting to get its fall color. It’s supposed to get like this super vibrant yellow and it’s definitely turning yellow. Does it go away or Yeah, I I believe it’s a perennial goes away and comes back. To double check. The um jasmine are still blooming and with our very warm uh fall, I’ve been smelling it because it gets heated up. We have just a few things on our table. Not a whole lot. Two things for the moon garden. Um, and then these two trees will go in our backyard. We now know where they’re going. I’m looking for a pot for this. So, I know where that’s going. And the only thing that I’ll have to overwinter are these crab apples, which is so fantastic. That may be a record crush. Might be the best the best we’ve done so far. um over this direction. Not a whole lot going on in the private grove anymore. Kind of just empty. But this first pot still has crazy zenyas. Look at this. Why is it growing like that? Anyway, zenyas. Um all kinds of fun colors and dalas. This is another dalia that we grew from seed. Um these really fun tall cone zenyas and these really bright ones. Think else is just kind of going to sleep. We do have some baby pink capper liillies starting to bloom up in there. And right here’s a closer sweet. Okay. Okay. And then over here we’ve got more dalas that we grew from seed. It’s one of my favorites. Isn’t that so fun? Just so bright and vibrant. Uh the roses are finally starting to slow down. Although look at that. Isn’t it so pretty? Think we have any other roses? And these are uh proven miner roses that kind of came into their own late in the season I feel like. But there’s three right here and they they keep taking turns. They don’t seem to bloom all at once. the Veronas that we planted a couple months ago, they were discount plants and they’re they keep coming back, keep blooming, but I’m finally starting to see a little evidence of powdery mildew on them, uh, which is typical of this time of year. And our iberis is also coming into bloom, and it’ll just keep getting more and more blooms over the next couple months. And this pot here has these really pretty fuchsia. I don’t know if that there’s blooms on them anymore. Right here. Oh, yeah. Aren’t those so sweet? Uh, I think I mentioned this in a video before, but I want to put these in a taller pot because getting down on my knees to look underneath the leaves to see those blooms is not ideal to see them from a better viewpoint. More seed dalas doing fantastic. We’ve got this dark maroon colored one and this sweet yellow sunsetti one with a really big beeander. And the del or the zenyas are finally done in this pot. I could cut those back. And then look at all the buds that we have on this uh dianths. It’s got such a pretty yellow flower. Then we have all these dalas. And these dalas are all grown from tubers. And I had to wait for them to bloom to know which ones they were because I mixed them all up. Uh so we ended up with an Ivanetti, a Iahi. Um is this one? This one’s an Iah, too. See, we’ve got gay princess. I think this one is different. Is this one? No. Um, okay. We We’ve got a gets crazy over there. The orange one. Um, this one ended up with Thris, which is unfortunate. And another Ivanetti in here. And that just about does it for the front yard. We do have a white rose blooming there. And then this was a fun happy accident. This is a roodendran. But this is a viola. See a single one here. This a viola from a pot that we had sitting out here last fall probably. And it’s been blooming and it it’s growing up through this little baby um roodendrin which is so funny because this roodendrin is a yellow blooming rodendrin. So it’s just silly but also super fun. Uh we’ve uh we’ve taken all of our annuals out of the porch baskets, but all these beonas still look really fantastic. These are the beonas. Still looking absolutely fantastic. Um, we did take our baskets down, but I’m saving the creeping jenny. And then we do have some um, pumpus grass drying here. And then we’ve got this beonia. Isn’t that fantastic? And our bay tree really loved this spot. I mean, it grew a good 2 feet, which is crazy. Um, so I’m going to be trimming that here pretty soon. It smells so good. And this is the time to um collect them and dry them when the leaves are a little bit thin and the essential oil is just like potent. Um but I want these to be a topiary. So it’s a little wild. We’ll be trimming that up here pretty soon. Um what else? We also transplanted this tiny ailia and for some reason it’s randomly blooming one single bloom right now. It’s not time to bloom but that’s what it’s doing. We also have so many blooms still on this rose of Sharon. It’s so sweet. I mean, you could see it’s yellowing, but man, this thing has had hundreds of blooms this year, which has been so fun. And while this rose of Sharon only got two blooms, it’s pink. Here’s a better look at the gets crazy that got on there. and Stalia’s. There’s another gay princess right here. They’re not all the way open yet, though. They get bigger. Um, these guys are done. Done. These guys are just about done. And like right now it looks like I could just have really beautiful um fall and winter interest, but they will just turn into moldy really disgusting. Really? I didn’t know that. Yes, we could leave some on there so you could see, but they just turn into gray mold disgustingness, which is why I can’t leave them up all winter. Right. Oh, I got you. But you can cut on dry them fine. I could dry them. I can cut them and dry them and they’ll stay this way. But if I left them in the ground outside, I know. All the rain and moisture would make them a disgusting mess. When they’re under snow, they’re strong enough to hold up to snow and they don’t mold. Weird. But in the rain, it was just like constant moisture. It’s not like dry cold, right? I don’t know. I’ve tried too many times and they’re disgusting to handle when they’re that mushy and gross. So, I just got them back in the fall. This pot is looking a little worse for wear, but it’s uh mostly this vermillionaire is amazing. We have lots of snapd dragons still blooming over in this area. Uh we planted something like 250 snap dragons this spring and they’ve been going for it and they’re still just they’re just going for it. It’s so fun to have this much color this late in the season. And we’re still waiting on our pineapple sage to bloom. Um but it will it it will bloom. It tends to bloom closer to the end of November. Uh, real quick, we’ll walk up here. Um, let’s see. Let’s take a look at these, the sumax, which have an amazing fall color. It’s like the main reason we have this these trees. Just stunning fall color. And they’re they’re starting to get their seed heads as well. Our hibiscus is done blooming clearly. But here is just an example of what happens. Just gross. Can you see all that mold just doing that? Yuck. And that’s what that’s what this flower looked like before the last rain. And that’s what every flower in my garden will look like if I don’t cut them back. All right, we’ll do a quick uh gander up here before heading into the moon garden or into the herb garden rather. Uh we’ve got lots of geraniums. We cut these all back midseason. they come back and bloomed. Um, this hydrangea got transplanted this year and gave me a little bit of bloom. And then the pompus grass is blooming like crazy. We’ve cut off oh, I don’t know, a dozen or more seed heads at this point. Big huge giant seed heads. The burning bush, it’s doing its thing. full of bright red color. Um the whole idea is it looks like a burning bush, right? Um and then everything else is just kind of going to seed, but we left these annuals and they still have so much blooms on them. Isn’t that amazing? Those are um mostly what I’m seeing there are the super tuna bubblegum and a few of the superunia jasberry. But there is a little bit of this super tuna. What is that? Silver vein or something like that. So that’s fun. All right, let’s go ahead and head down into the herb garden and we’ll finish our tour there. How are there How are there daisies? How are their daisies blooming right now? I mean, worse for wear, but what in the world? There’s a couple right there as well. Oh my goodness. Okay, into the herb garden we go. Uh we have prim roses over here. This is the season of the primrose. We will have prim roses blooming all winter long. And I just love adding to the collection. And these are just like everyday grocery store prim roses, but they’re super fun to have a big abundance of color when nothing else is colorful in a garden. Um, which isn’t the case today, but through the winter it is. More geraniums in bloom. The um St. John’s wart has it ton of berries on it now and it’s got its fall color bright yellow. Um, gorgeous armasia still. We’ve got lots of chundula still blooming. I forgot to point out when we were on the top tier the blueberries that have this fantastic fall foliage. Um, hard to see with the sumac in the back. Let’s see if we can get a better view of this one. Look at that. Isn’t that so fun? I’m just so impressed with how much color we still have in the garden. Look at these zenyas. Okay. Oh, look at that. We still even have just a couple of Clemetus. Look at those. Oh my goodness. Looks like it’s broken right there, though. Unfortunately, probably just got too heavy cuz I didn’t have it tied up up there. So, herb garden. Um, well, we planted leaks in there and they got eaten by slugs. So, that’s fun. We’ve got this muin going to seed. And of course, all of our mints and more Zenyas. Look at this thing. Oh, it’s so pretty. These colundula are still going strong. Um, we’ve got a little bit of black eyed susan there. And the verbina is going to seed. And I just let it go to seed and spread around the garden. I do try to encourage it to go that direction. Uh just cuz I don’t want them in my walkway, but they’re not guaranteed because you see what happens. the seeds turn to the mold and it this happens before the seeds ripen. So I can’t even collect them. It’s like they go from this to this before I can harvest any of them. So, it’s at the mercy of mother nature whether or not I get these um an abundance of these types of verbena every year. Um let’s see. Another beautiful blueberry bush with beautiful color and some bright snapdragons over there. More snapdragons here. This is very summery looking right now. And then our purple smoked bush, um, which I feel like highlights this red during this time of year. So when this blueberry bush gets bigger, it’s going to be a really beautiful contrast. And that kind of uh concludes our tour of the herb garden for now. All right, that is going to be it for today’s front yard and herb garden tour. Um, stay tuned because we are going to be giving you a tour of our Halloween decor um later this month. But for today, that’s going to um that that is going to conclude our time together today. So, I hope that you’re celebrating your life and I will see you in the next video. Bye.
